Kosol Energie Targets Storage And Agricultural Solar Growth

Kosol Energie is preparing to expand into battery energy storage systems and agricultural solar after 15 years in the solar photovoltaic sector focused on quality and reliability. The Ahmedabad-based firm pursued projects with strict energy generation guarantees to demonstrate product confidence and build market credibility amid intense price competition. The strategy emphasises quality over scale to retain customers and enter new markets.

Kosol's early work included a 2.5 megawatt (MW) rooftop project with SunEdison around 2013-14 that provided execution experience. The company received a letter of intent for 300 megawatt (MW) of rooftop installations under a 1.1 gigawatt (GW) programme and was the largest order winner in that initiative. Management said the award reflected growing execution capability.

The firm is entering battery storage via a technical partnership with U.S.-based Gridscale to bring battery software and system expertise to India. Kosol is increasing domestic value addition in software components including battery management system (BMS) and energy management system (EMS) development to improve performance and safety. Leadership expects rapid market growth and eventual consolidation based on quality and reliability.

Kosol has installed more than 10,000 solar pumps across seven Indian states and over 200 districts, and its agriculture brand Koraam is the firm's most profitable vertical. Koraam offers solar based cold storage and other farm-focused solutions intended to raise farmers' incomes and improve supply chains. Operating multiple renewable verticals reduces business risk and opens revenue streams. The company reports an order book of Rs 40 billion (40 bn).

Executives urged policy focus on research and skill development alongside incentives and said internal training and partnerships are being used to address a shortage of skilled workers. The firm launched an artificial intelligence driven microgrid planning platform that analyses usage patterns and recommends optimal storage sizing and estimates returns.
