Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minister, Meghalaya, announced the initiation of the CM’s Solar Mission, a project worth Rs 5 billion, with the aim of tackling the power shortage in the state. It was stated that the government would allocate the funds over the next 5 years.
Sangma expressed that the people-oriented CM Solar Mission was designed to be a prominent endeavor in the sphere of Renewable Energy, with the intention of promoting the adoption of eco-friendly and clean energy practices throughout the state. The mission's objectives go beyond just resolving the power deficit. It is anticipated to bring about a new era characterised by resilience, self-reliance, and environmental progress in Meghalaya. Apart from offering a substantial subsidy, the initiative includes provisions for bank financing on the backend, which would facilitate beneficiaries in availing the advantages with minimal financial input, Sangma conveyed. Initially, the state government plans to allocate an annual investment of Rs 1 billion towards the solar mission.
