TP Solar Crosses 4 GW Solar Output at Tamil Nadu Plant

TP Solar Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) and the manufacturing division of Tata Power, has announced a major production milestone—crossing 4 GW of solar module output at its advanced facility in Tamil Nadu.

As of 31 May 2025, the plant has cumulatively manufactured 4.049 GW of solar modules and 1.441 GW of solar cells. This milestone underscores the company’s growing role in supporting India’s clean energy transition and self-reliance in renewable energy manufacturing.

Looking ahead, TP Solar is targeting 3.7 GW of solar cell output and 3.725 GW of solar module production for FY26. With its rated capacity of 4.3 GW expected to be fully achieved during the same period, the facility is on track to significantly contribute to India’s ambition of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

The plant, built to meet Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms, produces next-generation Mono PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell) and TopCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) modules. These are manufactured using AI-driven automation and cutting-edge production technologies, enhancing both efficiency and scalability.

TP Solar’s output is already being deployed across Tata Power’s own project pipeline—including utility-scale farms, hybrid parks, and rooftop systems—while also serving major third-party installations nationwide. This expansion strengthens India’s solar supply chain, reducing reliance on imports and enabling quicker project rollouts.

Beyond its manufacturing capability, the Tamil Nadu facility is also recognised for its inclusive workforce and sustainability-driven operations. More than 80 per cent of its shop-floor staff are women, reflecting Tata Power’s focus on gender diversity in high-tech industries. The plant adheres to green building principles, with energy-efficient operations and minimal environmental impact.

In addition to the Tamil Nadu unit, Tata Power operates a 682 MW solar module and a 530 MW solar cell plant in Bengaluru, both running at full capacity to meet DCR-related production needs.

As one of India’s largest vertically integrated solar manufacturers, TP Solar is playing a critical role in enabling the country’s clean energy goals—driving innovation, enhancing supply chain resilience, and setting benchmarks for sustainable industrial growth.
