TTDI Delivers Indigenously Developed 132kV m-GIS to POWERGRID

Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) (TTDI) has delivered an indigenously developed 132kV mobile gas-insulated switchgear (m-GIS) system to Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID). The shipment represents the company's advance into mobile high-voltage solutions tailored for Indian transmission requirements. The system was produced in India and was handed over to the central transmission utility for integration into its network. TTDI will be referred to by its abbreviation subsequently and the buyer as POWERGRID.

The 132kV m-GIS system is designed to enable rapid deployment and flexibility for grid operators, allowing for temporary installations during maintenance, emergency restoration or system augmentation. The modular architecture of the unit facilitates transport, on-site assembly and commissioning, reducing downtime compared with traditional outdoor substations. As a mobile design, the system occupies a smaller footprint and offers enhanced safety and reliability characteristics consistent with modern gas-insulated technology.

TTDI said the development and delivery mark a significant milestone in broadening the indigenous mobile high-voltage portfolio in India and support domestic manufacturing goals. The company noted that local development reduces dependence on imported solutions and can accelerate project timelines for utilities across regions. POWERGRID will integrate the unit into its transmission planning and operations where temporary or space-constrained solutions are required, the parties indicated in their release.

Industry observers view the delivery as part of a wider trend towards modular and transportable electrical infrastructure that can assist India’s expanding transmission needs and the integration of variable generation. TTDI intends to pursue further deployments and adaptation of the m-GIS family to meet diverse operational requirements, the release said. The delivery underlines the emphasis on indigenous engineering and may encourage additional orders from public and private sector utilities.
