Vizag MP Urges Push For PM Surya Ghar And PM-KUSUM

Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M. Sribharat called for increased awareness of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and the PM-KUSUM scheme to ensure reliable and quality power supply for farmers and households. The appeal was made during a review meeting of the district electricity committee where the MP stressed the importance of strengthening power infrastructure and improving electricity services across the region. He urged officials to respond promptly to consumer complaints and to work towards uninterrupted electricity supply in all mandals of the district.

Sribharat emphasised the need to promote rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar scheme so that more households can benefit from government subsidies for installing solar panels. The scheme is designed to expand rooftop solar capacity across the country and to help households generate their own electricity, reducing dependence on conventional power sources and lowering electricity costs. He also highlighted the importance of creating awareness about the PM-KUSUM scheme, which supports solarisation in the agricultural sector, including the installation of solar pumps to provide reliable power for irrigation.

In addition to promoting renewable energy initiatives, the MP reviewed the progress of ongoing power infrastructure projects in the district, including underground cabling works, extra high tension lines, 33/11 kilovolt (kV) substations, feeder stations, additional transformers and grid interlinking projects aimed at strengthening the electricity distribution network. He asked officials to accelerate the implementation of these projects and to ensure that they are completed within the scheduled timelines. Detailed reports and mapping of substations and electricity services were directed to be prepared to improve planning and monitoring of the district's power network.

Sribharat also stressed the need to effectively implement the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme to reduce transmission and distribution losses, to expand smart metering and to modernise the power distribution system. Power department engineers and officials attended the meeting and discussed measures to enhance the efficiency and reliability of electricity supply. The MP directed officials to prioritise timely execution and robust consumer grievance redressal to improve service delivery across the district.
