With everything going green, could renewable energy be left behind? Power Grid Corporation of India, led by RN Nayak, Chairman and Managing Director, is planning to set an exclusive countrywide green corridor for renewable energy transmission. It would invest Rs 42,000-crore in the project, out of which about Rs 20,000 crore would be invested for intra-state strengthening and Rs 22,000 crore for inter-state transmission systems for grid integration. This would also include other works such as energy storage, real time monitoring system and setting up of renewable energy management centre. The plan will be executed over a period of five years for transmission of 40 GW of renewable energy by 2030. The company is currently working on 800 kv HVDC and 1, 200 UHVAC systems to increase bulk power transmission capacities over long distances. It recently test charged a 1,200 kV line.
