GVMC asked to upgrade transport infra

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) was urged by local councilors to upgrade transport infrastructure in order to resolve traffic snarls in the city.

According to some councilors, there is a need for widening roads and constructing new flyovers and subways to overcome the growing traffic problems in the city.

The councilors want the corporation to build flyovers at NAD junction, Maddilapalem junction, and Gajuwaka on a war-footing to overcome frequent traffic congestions.

Further, they want the civic body to resume work on widening the Akkayyapalem – Simhachalam 60-ft road that was stopped at NSTL.

They also want the 60-ft road from MVP Colony – Seethammadhara – Marripalem R&B junction to be widened into a 100-ft road.

Lack of subways is causing hardship to pedestrians and motorists. The problem is compounded at four-road junctions.

Besides, GVMC was also asked to develop parks and greenery in various colonies and areas. The maintenance of parks was handed over to the residents’ welfare association and many of them were not maintaining them properly owing to funds constraint and other reasons.
