bauma ConExpo Exclusive: We want to be a solution provider, not just a component provider.

What were the key products and technologies showcased by Schaeffler at Bauma CONEXPO India 2026?
Our focus was on helping customers improve efficiency, reliability, productivity and sustainability. We showcased a broad portfolio covering bearings, electrification, actuation and condition monitoring.
For instance, our low-friction X-Life bearings require less energy and offer longer service life, helping reduce total cost of ownership. We also showcased electromechanical actuation as an alternative to hydraulic systems, offering a smaller footprint, lower maintenance and no risk of oil leakage.
Our condition-monitoring solution helps predict potential failures and enables customers to take proactive maintenance action.

How is Schaeffler supporting customers across the product lifecycle?
We support customers throughout the lifecycle – from selecting the right product to lubrication, condition monitoring and, eventually, reconditioning. For large-size bearings, we have reconditioning facilities in India and Australia. This helps extend bearing life, reduce costs and support sustainability.

How are OEM requirements evolving, particularly around efficiency and reliability?
Customers are increasingly looking for solutions that reduce energy consumption, improve reliability and address sustainability requirements. We work closely with OEMs to customise solutions around their specific applications. Our objective is to be a solution provider rather than just a component provider.
This requires strong local capabilities. In India, we have five manufacturing facilities, two of which are large manufacturing facilities located in Savli and Maneja, Gujarat, three R&D centres and dedicated application-engineering expertise across sectors including off-highway, wind, rail and construction equipment.

How important is India to Schaeffler’s Asia Pacific strategy?
India is a key growth market for our Asia Pacific business. It is a large domestic market and an important part of our regional operations. Our approach is to strengthen local sales, manufacturing, R&D and application engineering so that we remain close to customers and can respond quickly to their requirements.
Local capabilities also enable us to address customer issues faster, without depending entirely on resources from Germany.

What are Schaeffler’s plans for manufacturing and localisation in India?
We plan to significantly expand our manufacturing capacity in India. At Savli, we are building a third hall, with a roadmap to add further capacity through halls four and five.
The objective is to build a stronger local ecosystem – not only to serve India but also to support customers across Asia Pacific. Local manufacturing, R&D and application engineering will work together to improve customer intimacy and shorten response and delivery times.
