Liebherr Excavators Win Red Dot Top Honour

Liebherr’s new A 909 Compact and A 911 Compact Litronic wheeled excavators have received the ‘Red Dot: Best of the Best’ award in the Product Design 2026 discipline of the Red Dot Award. The highest honour recognises visionary and exceptionally outstanding product design.

The two models, first presented to the public last year, expand Liebherr’s wheeled excavator portfolio. With their compact structure, strong performance and user-oriented design, the A 909 Compact and A 911 Compact set new standards in the compact wheeled excavator segment.

The new wheeled excavator series from Liebherr competed in a strong international field that included numerous submissions from companies and design studios worldwide. The A 909 Compact and A 911 Compact impressed the international jury with their design quality, product finish and overall functionality. The Red Dot jury honoured both machines with the highest distinction, awarding them 96 out of a possible 100 Red Dot Winner Points.

The A 909 Compact and A 911 Compact are compact yet powerful all-round machines designed for demanding construction applications. The nine-tonne and eleven-tonne models have been developed from scratch and combine modern technology, high efficiency and quality workmanship. Their product design aligns with Liebherr’s wider portfolio while reinforcing the company’s focus on quality, continuity and progress.

All components, from the comfortable cab interior and new INTUSI operating system to the visually optimised exterior, have been designed with functionality and user benefit in mind. The machines offer strong manoeuvrability and flexibility, supported by compact dimensions, powerful hydraulics and precise controls.

Despite their compact design, both models offer the largest cab interior in their class. Spacious access and improved all-round visibility enhance comfort, ergonomics and safety. The intuitive and customisable INTUSI system is supported by newly developed joysticks with innovative functions.

Both excavators are easy to transport, quick to set up and suited for projects involving frequent changes in operating locations. With a focus on ease of operation, safety and durability, Liebherr aims to strengthen its position in the compact wheeled excavator segment.

The Red Dot Design Award is among the world’s most respected design competitions. Since 1955, it has recognised products with high design quality, assessed by an independent international jury across criteria such as functionality, usability, responsibility and design excellence.
