AMC, sub-registrar office to integrate property database

Property tax data of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will be integrated with the property registration database of the sub-registrar’s office — a department under the state revenue ministry.

Municipal officials told the media that it is being done to stop bogus documentation and guarantee uniformity of records of property owners and tenants. Another significant systemic change being taken up is that once the property ownership details are obtained from the revenue department, the owner will be provided with a unique token id by the sub-registrar’s office.

The owner will have to log on to AMC’s property tax website and enter the token number rendered by the sub-registrar’s office. The AMC’s server will confirm the token number with the revenue department’s servers and implement the property tax registration, too. This process can happen any time during the day since it is online, as per a senior AMC authority.

An online integrated platform is being formed and provisional approval has been given by the AMC. Similar integration is being taken up for the AMC’s vehicle tax division with that of the database of the regional transport office (RTO).

They had learnt that the civic body was losing on revenues in crores as the vehicle dealers were not paying AMC’s vehicle tax and passing them as discounts to their customers. It was going unchecked for close to a decade. An integrated platform will stop such malpractices.

Land conflicts, population density hinder India's renewable energy goals

A recent report by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) suggests that India’s renewable energy (RE) capacity could theoretically surpass 24,000 gigawatts (GW), though achieving just a portion of this—approximately 7,000 GW needed for net-zero emissions by 2070—will be challenging. The obstacles stem from issues related to land and water availability, as well as population density. The report, titled "Unlocking India’s Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen Potential: An Assessment of Land, Water, and Climate Nexus," highlights major challenges as India aims to grow from it..
