MCD demolishes over 300 illegal structures in Delhi in 15 days

Over 301 demolition activities have been carried out by city authorities across the national capital in the previous 15 days to combat illegal construction, according to officials.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said in a statement that 77 sealing actions were carried out across its 12 zones during the same time period. According to the department, it has been attempting to reduce the threat of unauthorized buildings in several regions.

Since the previous 15 days, these activities have been carried out in various regions throughout the city, particularly in unauthorised colonies and agricultural fields, according to the statement.

The demolition work was done in 18 different areas, including Mohan Garden, Pushp Vihar, Madangir, Vasant Kunj, Jamia Nagar, Jaitpur, Trilokpuri, Burari, and Nangloi.

A total of 21 properties were demolished in a manner that the structures cannot be utilised for any purpose or they cannot be renovated either, it stated.

According to the civic council, proper safety precautions were taken during the demolition. According to the report, the owners/occupiers have been charged in 21 cases for criminal culpability. Discoms and the Delhi Jal Board have also been ordered to cut the electricity and water connections to such unauthorised structures, according to the statement.

The demolition operation, according to the MCD, is directed at unscrupulous builders who defraud innocent people by promising them larger properties at lower prices. The demolition campaign will continue in the following days, according to the statement.
