Lithium Urban Technologies buys SmartCommute for mobility offerings

Urban mobility services provider Lithium Urban Technologies announced its acquisition of transport service provider software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform SmartCommute, to expand further into the mobility segment.

The mobile application company, SmartCommute is a seven-year-old startup that helps corporations satisfy every employee's transportation needs.

The facilities range from -- automated rostering, back-to-back cab routing, trip allocations, and real-time tracking features that could ensure the safety of the employees using this platform.

The Bengaluru-based company acquires SmartCommute to further extend its transportation divisions including freight and rapid bus transits along with providing both electric and non-electric vehicles for their customers.

Lithium told the media that the acquisition is in line with the company’s aim to expand its transportation and mobility ecosystem and to provide clients with full-stack services and go beyond sustainable corporate mobility solutions.

Before the arrival of the second wave of Covid-19, SmartCommute was widely used among close to 30,000 employees in more than 3000 vehicles across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, New Delhi, and Hyderabad.

Some of the major clients of SmartCommute included Capgemini, L&T Infotech, KPIT, and TCS.

As of now, Lithium Urban Technologies provides telematics, fleet management systems, scheduling, rostering and analytics-based optimisation, and trained and certified drivers.

The company also possesses an electric vehicle charging network spread across seven major cities in India.
