Atlas Copco Launches Oil-Free Booster for PET Blow-Moulding

Atlas Copco has launched the ZGH 100–200 VSD+, which it describes as the first standard oil-free rotary screw booster for PET blow-moulding applications. Unveiled at Drinktec India 2026, the system brings rotary screw technology to high-pressure air applications of up to 30 bar.

The booster raises clean, dry air from 10 barg to 30 barg at the point of use. Traditionally, PET manufacturers have used centralised high-pressure systems, with piston boosters in dedicated compressor rooms and air distributed through extensive pipe networks. The ZGH can be installed close to a blow-moulding machine, while retaining the existing medium-pressure compressor infrastructure.

This decentralised approach can help reduce pressure losses, simplify plant layouts and free up production space. Atlas Copco said the system is suited to changing operating requirements in PET production, where advances in bottle design and blow-moulding technology have reduced pressure needs on some lines.

“By enabling decentralised high-pressure compression, the solution gives manufacturers greater flexibility in plant design while helping simplify operations and optimise compressed air systems,” said Bhavin Pandya, General Manager, Compressor Technique Customer Center, Atlas Copco India.

The company is also showcasing CO₂ recovery and compression systems, on-site nitrogen generation and boosting solutions, oil-free compressed air technologies, and blowers for pneumatic conveying and wastewater treatment. Its portfolio serves utility requirements across beverage manufacturing, including PET bottle production and packaging.
