Agastya Green Energy To Invest Rs 78 bn In 12 GW Manufacturing

Agastya Green Energy will invest Rs 78 bn to establish a 12 gigawatt (GW) ingot and wafer manufacturing complex in the Asia Pacific region. The company presented the allocation as part of a strategic push to expand upstream capacity in the solar photovoltaic value chain and to support downstream module makers. The announcement identifies ingot and wafer production as critical steps towards greater supply chain resilience for crystalline silicon modules.

The project will focus on high?throughput ingot casting and wafer slicing technologies to deliver consistent wafer quality at scale. By creating localised production the group intends to reduce dependence on overseas wafer supplies and to shorten lead times for module assembly. The facilities are planned to supply wafers for a range of crystalline silicon cell formats while aligning with industry practices for process control and yield improvement.

The stated investment of Rs 7,800 Crore converts to Rs 78 bn and corresponds to 78,000 mn in financial terms, reflecting the magnitude of capital required for multi?gigawatt upstream manufacturing. The figure underscores the long?cycle, capital?intensive nature of ingot and wafer projects and the need for substantial engineering, equipment procurement and facility build?out. The company framed the commitment as a long?term industrial investment aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing capability.

Agastya Green Energy indicated that project delivery will follow detailed engineering, regulatory clearances and phased commissioning to match market demand. The new capacity is intended to bolster the regional solar supply chain and to support efforts to scale module production in Asia Pacific. The initiative is likely to be regarded as a significant industrial step in the broader transition towards expanded renewable energy deployment in the region.
