AIM, Bhashini Unite To Boost Innovation In Local Languages

In a significant step towards breaking linguistic barriers and democratising access to innovation, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) under NITI Aayog and the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) today in New Delhi. The collaboration is aimed at fostering vernacular innovation and strengthening language inclusivity across India’s fast-growing innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The SoI was signed during a meeting between senior representatives from both entities, including Deepak Bagla, Mission Director of AIM, and Amitabh Nag, Chief Executive Officer of the Digital India Bhashini Division. The discussions centred around integrating Bhashini’s language technology tools within AIM’s national innovation programmes to ensure broader accessibility.
As an initial step, educational content from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy will be translated into multiple Indian languages using Bhashini’s technology. This aligns with an earlier Joint Letter of Intent between AIM, NITI Aayog, and WIPO. The collaboration may also explore gamification of learning content and will provide startups and stakeholders within the AIM ecosystem access to Bhashini’s language toolkits and sandbox platforms for multilingual product development.
In addition to enhancing language inclusivity, the partnership will also support grassroots innovators by deploying Bhashini’s language technologies across AIM’s existing network of Atal Incubation Centres (AICs) and Atal Community Innovation Centres (ACICs). These centres, along with new Language Inclusive Program for Innovation (LIPI) centres, will serve as platforms for skilling and capacity-building initiatives at the local level.
Commenting on the partnership, Deepak Bagla said, “This collaboration supports our broader goal of fostering inclusive innovation. By integrating language technologies with AIM’s initiatives, we are taking a practical step toward ensuring accessibility and opportunity for innovators across India, regardless of language.”
Amitabh Nag added, “Language should never be a barrier to innovation. Through this collaboration with Atal Innovation Mission, we aim to empower every Indian innovator—regardless of linguistic background—with the tools they need to fully participate in the digital and entrepreneurial revolution.”
This strategic alliance represents a shared vision to make innovation resources more accessible and inclusive, reinforcing India’s larger digital empowerment and Atmanirbhar Bharat ambitions.
