Andheri RS Post Office Reopened As Future Ready Jan Sewa Connect Hub

Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the renovated Andheri Railway Station Post Office in Mumbai on eighth May 2026 as a future ready service hub under the Jan Sewa Connect initiative. The project forms part of the Department of Posts flagship drive to transform post offices into citizen centric and technology enabled service centres. The occasion was presented as a milestone in modernising postal infrastructure.

The Andheri RS Post Office, originally established in 1932-33, has been renovated in partnership with the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, to provide improved interiors and customer amenities. It was selected under a proof of concept initiative being implemented across 40 post offices in 17 states and is the first such facility in Maharashtra and the second in the country to be inaugurated under the scheme. The upgraded premises include strengthened branding and visual identity alongside efficient service delivery systems.

The inauguration included the release of a special cover by senior officials and was attended by the Chief Postmaster General for Maharashtra and Goa Amitabh Singh, local legislators Harun Khan and Rupesh Savarkar and community leader Acharya Pawan Tripathi among others. Dignitaries outlined that the facility will incorporate digital integration and modern service processes to reduce transaction times and improve citizen access. The scheme is being implemented as a proof of concept with iterative feedback informing further rollouts.

India Post operates a network of more than 0.165 million (mn) post offices and continues to play a role in financial inclusion and public service delivery across the country. The Department of Posts recorded 16 per cent growth in Gross Postal Revenue during 2025-26, which officials attributed to transformation initiatives under the flagship programme. Authorities have proposed the upgradation of around 2,000 post offices across Maharashtra as part of the Jan Sewa Connect rollout.
