Blue Line Trial Run Between KR Puram and Marathahalli by October-End

Trial runs on the Namma Metro Blue Line between KR Puram and Marathahalli are expected to begin by the end of October, while the full corridor up to Central Silk Board is scheduled to be ready by the middle of next year, Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said after inspecting construction works on Thursday.

Trains will be introduced progressively along the Outer Ring Road stretch as stations are commissioned, the minister said. He also directed officials to accelerate construction on the KR Puram-Hebbal-Kempegowda International Airport section, with train operations on the airport corridor targeted for November next year.

The Blue Line consists of Metro Phases 2A and 2B. The KR Puram-airport section is 38.44 km long, while the KR Puram-Central Silk Board section measures 19.75 km. Together, the corridors are intended to connect Bengaluru’s technology corridor with Kempegowda International Airport.

During the inspection, Gowda found the service road between Hebbal and Kasturi Nagar in poor condition, with construction materials narrowing the carriageway and road widening incomplete at several locations. At Veerannapalya station, he instructed officials to remove the materials and widen the road within one week, while the North Corporation was asked to clear encroachments.

Officials attributed delays between Veerannapalya and Hebbal to Cauvery water pipelines, underground drainage lines and heavy traffic. Gowda said the project was already delayed by a year and directed contractors to respond more urgently. Separately, trial runs on the 7.5-km elevated section of the Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere have been completed. Safety and electrical testing has continued for seven to eight months, and operational clearance is expected within four to five days. The State Government has sought an early inauguration from the Centre but has not received confirmation of a date.
