BorgWarner Secures Major Integrated Drive Module Programme

BorgWarner has secured a new integrated drive module programme with a global OEM, with production expected to begin in 2027.

The programme will use BorgWarner’s next-generation integrated drive module technology, combining its global technology capabilities with localised development and manufacturing.

The solution features a three-in-one integrated coaxial drive system incorporating an advanced eMotor, gearbox and fully integrated GenIV inverter in a compact package.

The GenIV inverter uses BorgWarner’s latest-generation Viper D power switch technology, designed to lower switching losses and provide higher current capability, improving the overall efficiency of the eDrive system.

The system also includes a highly integrated coaxial gearbox with a compact layout to improve vehicle packaging flexibility, along with an oil-cooled motor designed for demanding performance requirements. An integrated park system is also incorporated to meet safety and regulatory requirements.

Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President, BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, PowerDrive Systems, said the programme reflects the company’s focus on advanced electrified drive solutions supported by its global technology portfolio and local capabilities.

BorgWarner said the new system has been developed for lighter and more compact vehicle architectures. Its modular hardware and software integration strategy is designed to provide scalability across different customer requirements while reducing development complexity, shortening development cycles and optimising costs.
