Central Infrastructure Projects Under Monitoring Rise to 1,853

A total of 1,853 central sector infrastructure projects with a combined revised cost of Rs. 37.56 tn were under monitoring in September 2026, according to the latest monthly Flash Report released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The number of monitored projects increased from 1,731 in August, while their combined revised cost rose from Rs. 33.6 tn.

Cumulative expenditure on the projects stood at Rs. 17.71 tn, equivalent to approximately 47 per cent of their revised cost. The figures represented an increase of 122 projects and Rs. 3.96 tn in combined revised cost compared with August. MoSPI cautioned that changes in the number and composition of monitored projects meant the increase did not necessarily represent fresh investment or additional project costs.

The transport and logistics and energy sectors together accounted for more than 82 per cent of the projects being monitored, underscoring their dominant share of the central infrastructure pipeline. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had the largest number of projects, followed by the Ministry of Railways.

Other major ministries covered by the report included Coal, Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Power. Several projects reached advanced stages of physical and financial completion during the month, while infrastructure works in the power, roads and railway sectors were commissioned in September.

The report is prepared using information submitted by ministries and departments through MoSPI's infrastructure project monitoring system. It covers central sector infrastructure projects costing Rs. 1.5 bn and above across 17 ministries and departments. In August, cumulative expenditure had stood at Rs. 16.33 tn, representing 48.59 per cent of the revised cost of the projects being monitored.
