Completion Of Avinashi Flyover Project Likely To Be Delayed

The Highways Department has set March 2025 as the target for completing the 10.1-km Avinashi Road flyover project. However, sources suggest that the timeline may be extended due to ongoing major works.

The construction of the main entry ramp from Goldwins is nearing completion and is expected to be finished shortly. Although the department has directed the contractor to complete the main carriageway by March 2025, delays appear likely, potentially pushing the deadline by a few months. While pillars have been installed in most areas, deck slab placement is still pending at locations such as Peelamedu and Nava India.

Additionally, high-voltage power lines in the Nava India area, which pose an obstruction to the work, are being relocated underground. This includes shifting transformers and electricity poles to facilitate smooth progress.

Meanwhile, the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed 5-km extension of the flyover from Goldwins to Neelambur is in progress and expected to be completed within a month. Soil testing for this extension was conducted in November.

Given the planned metro rail infrastructure from Ukkadam Bus Stand to Neelambur, the DPRs for both the flyover extension and metro rail projects will be reviewed together. Construction of the flyover extension will commence following consultations with relevant departments and stakeholders.
