Contractors in Maharashtra will move the Bombay High Court, alleging non-payment of Rs 890 billion in dues for completed infrastructure works. Petitions will be filed in Mumbai, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The Maharashtra State Contractors Association and the State Engineers Association jointly took this decision at a recent meeting in Thane. Despite repeated requests and phased work stoppages since July 2024, the state has released only Rs 40 billion so far, they claimed. The dues reportedly include Rs 460 billion from the Public Works Department, Rs 180 billion from the Jal Jeevan Mission, Rs 197 billion from the Irrigation Department, and others.Milind Bhosle, President of the Contractors Association, warned that infrastructure works could come to a halt. “The amount released is a mere five per cent of our total dues. No one in the government, including the Chief Minister, is addressing this,” he said.PWD Minister Shivendraraje Bhosle had previously promised action, but contractors say little has changed beyond verbal assurances.
