Copeland Expands Scroll Compressor Manufacturing in India

Copeland has expanded its manufacturing capabilities in Atit, Maharashtra, becoming the first company to manufacture scroll compressors in India. Production began in December 2025, marking a significant milestone in strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) applications.

The expansion forms part of Copeland's Rs 5 billion investment initiative announced in 2024, which also includes strengthening its engineering and innovation capabilities in Pune. The investment aims to support India's growing HVACR market while enhancing local production and technological expertise.

The locally manufactured scroll compressor portfolio includes fixed-speed and variable-speed solutions designed for residential, commercial and cold chain applications. Domestic production is expected to reduce lead times, improve supply flexibility and enable greater customisation to meet customer requirements.

Ross B. Shuster, Chief Executive Officer, Copeland, highlighted India's strategic importance, citing its economic growth and expanding HVACR market. He said the investment reflected the company's commitment to strengthening its local operations and serving customers more effectively.

Jagadish Keswani, President, India, Middle East & Africa, Copeland, said the expansion supports the Make in India initiative by combining advanced engineering capabilities in Pune with increased manufacturing capacity in Atit. The company aims to develop high-efficiency solutions for both domestic and international markets.

Copeland will showcase its locally manufactured compressor portfolio and cold chain technologies at RefCold India in November 2026. The expansion is expected to strengthen India's refrigeration manufacturing ecosystem while supporting the growing demand for energy-efficient cooling technologies.
