Delhi Presents Rs 1,037,000 Million Budget for 2026-27

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the city government’s annual budget of Rs 1,037,000 million (mn) for the financial year 2026-27 at the Budget Session of the Delhi Assembly. The presentation outlined fiscal priorities and a push for increased capital investment while maintaining fiscal discipline. The announcement followed standard procedural presentation to legislators.

The Chief Minister noted that Delhi’s per capita income is the third highest in the country and that the city’s contribution to gross domestic product is projected to rise from 3.67 per cent in 2024-25 to 3.72 per cent in 2025-26. The budget allocates 70.3 per cent of resources to revenue expenditure and 29.7 per cent to capital expenditure, reflecting an emphasis on both service delivery and infrastructure. The government signalled measures to strengthen fiscal discipline alongside targeted spending.

Financial indicators were described as improved, with the tax-to-gross state domestic product ratio expected to rise from 4.95 per cent in 2025-26 to 5.09 per cent in 2026-27. The government projected a revenue surplus of Rs 90,920 million (mn) in the current financial year and underlined steps to broaden the tax base and enhance collection. Officials said capital investment would be increased while maintaining prudent borrowing.

The Chief Minister emphasised that environmental considerations were integrated across policies and that 21 per cent of the budget had been designated as a green budget to support sustainability initiatives. Allocation for the fire department was increased from Rs 5,300 million (mn) last year to Rs 6,740 million (mn) for 2026-27. The plan included Rs 2,020 million (mn) to extend Ayushman Bharat health scheme coverage to transgender individuals and Rs 2,250 million (mn) for installation of closed circuit television cameras across the capital. The government indicated that these allocations were part of a broader push to improve public safety and inclusion.
