DoT Releases NFAP-2025 Aligned with Global Spectrum Norms

Department of Telecommunications under the Ministry of Communications has recently released the National Frequency Allocation Plan 2025 (NFAP-2025), a key policy framework governing the management and allocation of radio-frequency spectrum in India. The plan comes into effect from 30 December 2025 and aligns India’s spectrum roadmap with global standards.

NFAP-2025 provides spectrum allocations across a wide frequency range from 8.3 kHz to 3,000 GHz and serves as a critical reference for spectrum planners, telecom operators and equipment manufacturers. The updated framework is designed to address rising demand from next-generation communication technologies and digital services.

A major highlight of NFAP-2025 is the identification of the 6425–7125 MHz band for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), significantly strengthening mid-band spectrum availability for 5G, 5G Advanced and future 6G networks. The plan also allocates Ka, Q and V bands to support next-generation satellite broadband services, including high-throughput geostationary satellites and large non-geostationary constellations.

The revised plan further enhances spectrum provisions for In-Flight and Maritime Connectivity, enabling seamless broadband access in the air and at sea. It also supports emerging technologies such as Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications, LEO and MEO satellite systems, and expanded broadband connectivity solutions.

According to the Department of Telecommunications, these forward-looking allocations will ensure responsive and high-capacity spectrum management while fostering a robust ecosystem for future digital innovation and connectivity growth in India.
