GMR Aero Technic Signs Honeywell MRO Licence Agreement

GMR Aero Technic signed a licence agreement with Honeywell Aerospace on 28 July 2026 in Hyderabad, India, for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services. The licence covers seven Honeywell Aerospace Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) fitted to LEAP engines used on narrow?body aircraft. The arrangement will allow in?region component repair for operators of the LEAP family, reducing turnaround time and reliance on overseas hubs. The companies described the deal as part of efforts to broaden regional maintenance networks.

Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) refers to inspection, repair, overhaul and restoration of aircraft components and systems, typically carried out at specialised facilities. In aviation, depot?level or base maintenance involves deeper repair work at engineering centres rather than at the aircraft line station. Line Replaceable Units are modular components designed for rapid removal and replacement to limit aircraft downtime. Specialised tooling and certified personnel are typically required for depot work.

LEAP is a family of turbofan engines developed by CFM International for narrow?body jets, powering the Airbus A320neo and the Boeing 737 MAX, which are widely used across global airline fleets. Component MRO for LRUs on such engines is critical for airlines to manage spares, service cycles and fleet availability. The licence for seven LRUs therefore strengthens local support for carriers operating these types in India and nearby markets. Efficient component repair is central to keeping narrow?body fleets operational and cost effective.

Hyderabad hosts GMR Aero Technic repair infrastructure and is established as one of India’s aviation engineering centres. The agreement complements the Make in India initiative by expanding domestic technical capability and encouraging in?region maintenance activity. The arrangement aims to reduce dependence on overseas maintenance hubs and to support faster turnarounds for operators in the region. The arrangement will support local employment and skill development in aviation engineering.
