Google Subsidiary Plans 1GW Data Centre in Visakhapatnam

A Google subsidiary, Raiden Infotech India, has proposed a 1GW artificial intelligence (AI) data centre project in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, as per news reports. The project involves an estimated investment of $10 billion and aims to establish three campuses across 480 acres in Adivivaram, Tarluvada, and the Rambilli–Achyutapuram cluster.
Construction for the first phase is expected to begin in March 2026, with operations scheduled to commence by July 2028. Raiden has reportedly applied for a 2.1GW power allocation from local distribution companies.
The proposal is likely to be reviewed by Andhra Pradesh’s IT Minister, Nara Lokesh, on October 14. This development follows earlier reports of Google’s $6 billion data centre and renewable energy plan in the city, though it remains unclear whether the new proposal expands or supplements the previous project.
The initiative reinforces Visakhapatnam’s emerging status as a data hub, amid state plans for a 500-acre “Data City.”
