Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) is working at a fast pace to double capacity at the Malanjkhand Copper Project in Madhya Pradesh by 2030, the company's chairman and managing director said. The plan is presented as a strategic priority for the firm and has been placed on an accelerated timeline.

The expansion will involve augmentation of mining and processing facilities, optimisation of existing assets and adoption of modern mining techniques to raise throughput. The company indicated that detailed engineering, procurement and construction activities are under way and that statutory clearances will be pursued in parallel to avoid delays. HCL is coordinating with state authorities and contractors to synchronise implementation milestones.

Officials framed the move as intended to strengthen domestic copper supply for manufacturing and infrastructure and to reduce reliance on imports. The project is expected to support downstream industries that depend on a secure copper feedstock and to enable greater self sufficiency in critical metal supplies. Management characterised the expansion as aligned with broader industrial policy priorities.

Local economic benefits were highlighted, with the company noting likely increases in employment opportunities and ancillary services during construction and after ramp up. Environmental management, rehabilitation and community engagement were presented as integral to the expansion and will be pursued in accordance with regulatory requirements. The firm said it will follow recognised best practices in mine closure planning and environmental safeguards.

The chairman indicated that financing strategies will combine internal resources and strategic partnerships to ensure project delivery within the stated timeframe. Timely execution will depend on supply chain stability and completion of permitting milestones, the company noted.
