Hindustan Zinc Expands Education Impact for 1 Million Children

Hindustan Zinc, India’s only and the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education, skills and inclusive learning for children and young people across its operational regions. Through flagship programmes such as Nand Ghar, Shiksha Sambal, Unchi Udaan and Jeevan Tarang, the company has positively impacted over 1 million children in the past five years.

Education remains a core pillar of Hindustan Zinc’s social impact efforts. Under Shiksha Sambal, the company supports 35,000 students across 140 schools, strengthening foundational learning in Science, Mathematics and English. More than 30,984 classes have been held to enhance comprehension and academic performance, contributing to an impressive 95 per cent pass rate in Class 10 board examinations — with 23 of 66 schools achieving a 100 per cent result.

The company has also established four STEM laboratories in Udaipur and Pantnagar, developed 26 model schools, and renovated 10 schools to promote engaging, future-ready learning environments.

CEO and Whole-Time Director Arun Misra said: “Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and dream without limits. Our initiatives go beyond classrooms — they help build confidence, curiosity and capability. As we celebrate Education Day and approach Children’s Day, we remain committed to empowering young minds who will shape India’s future with knowledge and inclusivity.”

Expanding Higher Education Pathways

Hindustan Zinc’s Unchi Udaan programme continues to open doors for talented students from rural and tribal communities. To date, 150 students have secured admissions into IITs and other premier engineering and government institutions, with all participants passing in first division.

A total of 32 students have been placed in leading organisations, earning an average annual package of around Rs 1 million, with the highest reaching Rs 2.1 million — demonstrating the programme’s strong emphasis on mentorship, guidance and excellence.

Empowering Children with Disabilities

Launched in 2017, the Jeevan Tarang initiative supports children with disabilities through sign language training, mental health workshops, hygiene awareness and pre-vocational skills. Over 2,600 children have benefitted so far. The programme operates across Ajmer, Bhilwara and Udaipur, ensuring equitable access to education and development opportunities.

Strengthening Early Childhood Development

A flagship initiative of the Anil Agarwal Foundation, Nand Ghar modernises Anganwadis through digital learning tools, solar power, safe drinking water, healthcare access and women’s skilling programmes. Across Hindustan Zinc’s operational regions, nearly 2,000 Nand Ghars are supporting early childhood development and women’s empowerment, benefitting around 370,000 women and children.

Nurturing India’s Sporting Talent

Recognising sport as a catalyst for youth development, the company established the Zinc Football Academy in Zawar, Rajasthan — a pioneering residential academy that has trained over 3,250 young athletes. Many participants have gone on to represent their district, state and the country, strengthening Rajasthan’s position in Indian football.

A Holistic Commitment to Community Transformation

By integrating early learning, academic support, higher education mentoring and inclusion, Hindustan Zinc continues to create meaningful and measurable impact. Its sustained focus on youth and education ensures that every child — regardless of background or ability — has the tools and opportunities to realise their full potential.
