Hyundai opens EV charging station in Chennai, plans 100 more

Automaker Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) announced the inauguration of its fast electric-powered vehicle (EV) charging station in Chennai. The company mentioned that this was the first of its goal to install 100 such facilities across Tamil Nadu.

The 180 kW DC fast charging station, consisting of 150 kW and 30 kW connectors, has been set up at Spencer Plaza in Chennai. It would serve compatible four-wheelers of any brand and model, according to a company release.

Jae Wan Ryu, Executive Director - Corporate Planning at HMIL, expressed that as they celebrated 28 years of HMIL in India, they were pleased to inaugurate their first 180 kW fast public charging station in Chennai. In alignment with Hyundai's vision of Progress for Humanity, the aim was to enhance convenience for all EV users. Therefore, the charging stations could be used by any four-wheeler EV user. HMIL envisioned installing 100 charging stations across Tamil Nadu to improve the EV ecosystem and encourage more customers to adopt EVs across the state.

EV owners would be able to access the charging facility through HMIL's Charger Management System in the myHyundai App, enabling easy location, navigation, and pre-booking of charging slots, as well as making digital payments and monitoring remote charging status.

Additionally, the release noted that more than 170 charging points currently available in Tamil Nadu were mapped in the EV Charge section of the myHyundai app for customer convenience. This app was accessible to both Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV users.
