L&T Vyoma Begins 40 MW AI-Ready Data Centre In Navi Mumbai

Larsen & Toubro Vyoma, the digital infrastructure arm of L&T, has commenced construction of a 40 MW green, AI-ready data centre at Mahape in Navi Mumbai. The facility forms part of a 100 MW campus and aligns with the company’s broader strategy to scale more than 200 MW of data centre capacity across India.

The Mahape development strengthens L&T Vyoma’s three-pillar data centre strategy, which focuses on hyperscale-ready campuses for global cloud providers, AI-centric infrastructure supporting the wider artificial intelligence ecosystem and sovereign cloud requirements, and colocation and build-to-suit offerings complemented by edge and disaster recovery solutions. The company’s national expansion roadmap targets capacity growth across Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

According to Seema Ambastha, Chief Executive of L&T Vyoma, the company has secured regulatory clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for one parcel of land and plans to apply for approvals for the second parcel, a process expected to take six to eight months. The two facilities are likely to be developed roughly a year apart, with the first targeted for completion by April 2028 and the second by 2029. At present, 34 MW of capacity is operational.

L&T Vyoma is close to finalising the design of its Chennai facility, which will also be developed as an AI-focused data centre. In Panvel, the company has initiated due diligence, with the facility expected to become operational around 2029. Chennai is targeted for completion in 2028, with parallel development under way in Bengaluru and Mahape, all of which are at advanced stages of design and regulatory approvals.

The Mahape data centre is being designed as a purpose-built AI facility aligned with NVIDIA’s technology roadmap. The company aims to create India’s first Vera Rubin-ready facility, capable of supporting up to 170 kW per rack, significantly higher than conventional data centre standards. By the time NVIDIA’s next-generation AI platform reaches India around 2027, the facility is expected to be fully ready to host high-density AI workloads.

L&T Vyoma is engaging with state and central governments, public service organisations, large AI startups, service providers and hyperscalers. It is also working with Indian cloud providers, including E2E Networks, in which it has invested. E2E Networks currently hosts around 4,000 GPUs with L&T Vyoma and plans to scale further from the upcoming Chennai facility.

The company is targeting a 10 per cent share of India’s data centre market by 2030, focusing on differentiated AI-specific infrastructure alongside hyperscale, retail and build-to-suit offerings. L&T Vyoma is pursuing a dual growth strategy: scaling capacity in high-growth segments such as artificial intelligence through optimised infrastructure, while leveraging L&T’s engineering and EPC capabilities to integrate power distribution, green energy and IT services in data centre projects.

The Mahape project underscores L&T Vyoma’s ambition to position itself as a leading provider of next-generation digital infrastructure in India’s rapidly expanding data centre market.
