NDSA Accelerates Recruitment to Strengthen Dam Safety Oversight

The National Dam Safety Authority has reported progress in staffing its sanctioned posts, following its establishment under the Dam Safety Act, 2021. Of the 85 approved positions in Group A and Group B, the roles of Chairman and five Members have been filled. Among the 65 technical posts designated for Central Water Engineering Service officers, 10 officers have joined on deputation, and four more have recently been selected.

Additionally, 14 posts have been encadred into the Central Secretariat Service, with 11 currently occupied. In total, 27 posts have been filled to date. To address remaining vacancies, the Authority issued a recruitment circular on 4 November 2025.

Flood management and anti-erosion schemes continue to be planned and executed by State Governments in line with regional priorities, with the Union Government providing technical guidance and financial support in critical areas. An integrated flood-management approach combining structural and non-structural measures remains central to minimising damage in vulnerable regions.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has also reiterated the importance of flood plain zoning as a non-structural measure for effective flood mitigation. Technical guidelines for flood plain zoning were circulated to all States and Union Territories in August 2025 to support scientific assessment and informed planning.

Hejamadi Kodi Harbour Project Records 87% Progress in Karnataka

The Department of Fisheries has reported significant progress on the Hejamadi Kodi fishing harbour development in Udupi district, Karnataka. The project was granted administrative approval in August 2018 for the upgrade of the existing fish landing centre at a total cost of Rs 1.38 billion, with Rs 346.5 million sanctioned as financial assistance under the Sagarmala Scheme.
