Nexxus Petro Leads India's Shift To Bio-Bitumen

Nexxus Petro Industries Limited is positioned to benefit from a structural shift in India’s road infrastructure sector as international bitumen prices have surged by 40 per cent amid the West Asia conflict. Domestic prices have climbed from Rs 40,000 per tonne to Rs 54,000–76,000 per tonne, prompting government actions to reduce import dependence. The company holds a CSIR-CRRI and CSIR-IIP certified licence for a proprietary bio-bitumen technology called KrishiBind, which is derived from agricultural biomass. That certification places the firm among a small group of licensed domestic bio-bitumen producers.

India currently imports 54 per cent of its bitumen requirement, representing nearly six million tonnes (mn t) out of an annual national demand of 11 million tonnes (mn t). Bitumen is directly derived from crude oil and remains vulnerable to global energy price volatility, making import substitution a strategic priority. Government statements have highlighted blends incorporating bio-bitumen, rubber powder and waste plastic as pathways to eliminate dependence on imported material. These policy signals have elevated attention on certified producers who can scale commercial output.

Nexxus Petro is among only 15 companies granted the technology licence by CSIR-CRRI and CSIR-IIP to manufacture bio-bitumen under the trade name KrishiBind. The company's positioning is reinforced by active government policy, rising import costs and accelerating road construction programmes under national initiatives, which together support sustained demand. Sustainability and environmental, social and governance considerations are also encouraging procurement of bio-based and waste-derived alternatives. The licence enables Nexxus to supply KrishiBind to road agencies, contractors and state highway authorities.

Based in Gujarat and listed on the BSE-SME platform, Nexxus Petro manufactures, processes, imports and distributes bitumen, bitumen emulsions and allied products from fully automated processing facilities with NABL-accredited laboratories. The company expects to capture domestic demand for an import substitute without reliance on additional facts beyond its certified technology and market positioning. Contact details are available with the company secretary for further information and compliance inquiries.
