Nitish Kumar Orders Faster Work On Patna Drain Projects

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted an unannounced inspection of the Mandiri drain in Patna on Tuesday, catching officials by surprise. He was accompanied by Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen, Patna District Magistrate Tyajrajan SM, Divisional Commissioner Chandrashekhar Singh and several senior officers.

During the visit, the Chief Minister expressed strong dissatisfaction with the slow progress of the Mandiri Nala project. Questioning officials directly, he said, “I have visited this site multiple times. Why has the work still not been completed? You were present here last time as well. Complete the work as soon as possible.”

He inspected the entire stretch of the drain and reviewed the project status in detail, issuing firm instructions to accelerate all pending tasks and complete the work within the prescribed timeframe.

Since the formation of the new government, Kumar has been conducting frequent field inspections, signalling a strong stance against delays in development projects.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the construction of the Rajiv Nagar underground drainage system. He instructed officials to speed up the work, noting that the project will significantly reduce waterlogging once completed. A two-lane road being constructed over the drain will further improve traffic flow and enhance the city’s appearance.

Kumar later inspected multiple ongoing projects across Patna’s urban areas. These included the construction of an underground drain and a four-lane road along the Serpentine Drain, running from Patel Golambar to the western end of Eco Park and from the eastern end of Eco Park to Atal Path. Officials briefed him that the project involves paving the drain and building a road over it.

The Chief Minister stressed the need for rapid completion of both drainage and road works to improve public transport flow and strengthen urban infrastructure. He reiterated that timely execution of these urban development projects is crucial to resolving waterlogging issues and enhancing Patna’s road network.
