Panvel civic body allocates crores for concretisation

Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to embark on a substantial road improvement project, marking its first foray into road concretization in nodes previously developed by CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation). PMC has approved a significant expenditure of INR 742.1 crore for a range of development projects, with the lion's share amounting to INR 730.5 crore dedicated to the concretization of roads across various locations. Additionally, $116 crore has been allocated for the enhancement of Kaamboli Lake.

This development marks a significant milestone as PMC extends its road concretization efforts to the areas of Kharghar, Kalamboli, New Panvel, and Panvel, all of which were initially constructed by CIDCO before being transferred to PMC's jurisdiction.

PMC's comprehensive plan also includes critical initiatives at Kalamboli Lake, encompassing the removal of silt, the construction of a pump house, and a beautification project.

At present, PMC operates under the administrative control of Municipal Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh, who leads the decision-making processes for the city. The move towards road concretization is a proactive response to the growing population and increasing vehicular traffic in these areas, with a view to averting potential pothole issues in the coming years.

CIDCO's nodes in Kharghar, Kalamboli, Kamothe, New Panvel, Khandeshwar, Taloja, and Navde have come under the purview of PMC. Some of these nodes were initially developed nearly three decades ago by CIDCO. The decision to concrete the roads represents a strategic investment to ensure the long-term durability and quality of the road infrastructure, addressing the needs of the expanding population and enhancing the overall civic infrastructure in the region.
