Prayagraj To Induct 70 Electric Vehicles For Civic Services

Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced the induction of 70 electric vehicles into its municipal fleet to support greener civic operations. The programme forms part of a broader effort by the civic body to modernise service delivery and reduce reliance on fossil fuel vehicles. The corporation presented the procurement as a step towards upgrading urban mobility and improving air quality in the city. Officials outlined that the vehicles have been selected to match operational requirements across municipal departments.

The batch comprises 70 battery electric vehicles that will be deployed for a range of municipal functions including waste management, street maintenance and service transport. The corporation indicated that vehicle specifications were chosen for durability, load capacity and energy efficiency to suit local conditions. Maintenance plans and schedules have been developed to ensure reliable operations and to extend asset life. Training modules for drivers and technical staff will accompany the rollout to support safe and efficient use.

The corporation said the move would cut local emissions and lower operating costs compared with older diesel units, while also reducing noise pollution in dense neighbourhoods. Officials described the procurement as aligned with municipal sustainability targets and national initiatives on zero emission transport. The announcement noted that charging requirements and depot readiness had been reviewed to integrate the vehicles into routine schedules. Suppliers were selected following tender processes intended to ensure compliance with technical and safety standards.

Officials said the roll out would begin in phases and that monitoring arrangements have been put in place to assess performance and user feedback. The corporation added that reduced fuel expenditure and lower maintenance demands were expected to free resources for other civic priorities. City administrators indicated the initiative forms part of longer term planning to modernise fleet management and to meet evolving environmental obligations. The move was presented as a practical step towards cleaner urban services and enhanced resident well being.
