State govt extends Swarnim Jayanti Urban Development Scheme

On October 15, the state government declared the extension of the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, a scheme aimed at enhancing the infrastructure of cities and towns by providing them with necessary funds.

Initiated in the fiscal year 2009-10 to celebrate Gujarat's 50th anniversary, this program has sanctioned more than 2.84 lakh projects worth Rs 48,736 crore over the past 13 years. As of now, a budget of Rs 57,000 crore has been approved for this flagship scheme. The decision to extend the program for an additional three years, from 2024-25 to 2026-27, reflects its significant success and widespread support from the public, according to a government statement.

Implementation Status of Jal Jeevan Mission

Since August 2019 the Government has implemented Jal Jeevan Mission to provide assured potable water through household tap connections in rural India. At the start of the mission only 32.3 million (mn) rural households, representing 16.7 per cent, were reported to have tap water connections. States and union territories have reported that 125.8 mn additional rural households have since been provided with tap connections. Empowering Local Governance for Sustainable Rural Water Supply

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has aligned the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) with the 73rd Amendment to strengthen village level planning and community ownership of water supply.
