UCIL to Contribute to India's Nuclear Energy Expansion Plan

The Uranium Corporation of India (UCIL) plans to make a significant contribution to India’s nuclear energy expansion, a senior official said at an event in Jaduguda, Jharkhand. The company made the announcement during celebrations marking the completion of six decades of its operations.

Atomic Energy Commission Member-Finance Seema Jain said UCIL’s Diamond Jubilee Year highlighted its long contribution to uranium mining, processing and the country’s nuclear power programme. She said the company’s role would remain important as India expands the use of nuclear energy.

Jain also paid tribute to Homi Jehangir Bhabha and other pioneers who established the foundations of India’s uranium mining and processing capabilities. She said generations of UCIL employees had worked with dedication in challenging conditions, supported by technologies and systems developed over the years.

During her visit, Jain inspected UCIL’s Technology Demonstration Pilot Plant at its research and development facility in Jaduguda. She also visited the proposed site of the Dark Matter Laboratory at the 815-metre level of the Jaduguda underground mine.

UCIL Chairman and Managing Director Kacham Anand Rao said the company had built extensive expertise and infrastructure in uranium mining and processing over six decades. He added that UCIL had continued to strengthen its capabilities in technology, safety and environmental management.
