GPT Infra Commissions New Steel Girder Plant Near Kolkata

GPT Infraprojects announced the successful commissioning of its steel girder and components manufacturing facility in West Bengal on April 24, 2025. Located in Village Majinan, Hooghly district—about 60 km from Kolkata—the plant begins operations with an initial capacity of 10,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA).

The company stated that the facility is in the process of securing RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organisation) approval for manufacturing steel bridge girders. Once approved, this unit is expected to become a key asset for the company’s steel bridge segment, catering to clients like the Indian Railways, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), and others.

“Provision has been made to increase the plant's capacity to 25,000 MTPA over the next two years,” GPT Infra added.

As a leader in steel bridge construction for both rail and road infrastructure, GPT Infraprojects expects the facility to deliver a significant cost advantage and expand its footprint across public sector clients.

GPT Infraprojects, the flagship firm of the Kolkata-based GPT Group, operates in two key segments: infrastructure and sleepers. The company specializes in executing large civil projects like bridges and Road Over Bridges (ROBs) for railways and manufactures concrete sleepers for railway networks in India and Africa.

Financially, GPT Infra reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 214.2 million (approx. $2.6 million), marking a 43.7% year-on-year growth in Q3 FY25. Its revenue from operations stood at Rs 2.78 billion (approx. $33.9 million), up 9.6% compared to the same quarter last year.

On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the company’s shares rose 0.75% to trade at Rs 140.40 following the announcement.
