BMC sets up 24 teams to repair potholes

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that 24 dedicated pothole-fixing teams have been set up in each of Mumbai's municipal wards for repairing potholes in roads across the city.

Due to the growing number of complaints, the BMC decided to form dedicated teams to address the pothole problem.

Potholes have become a common occurrence during monsoons due to the presence of bitumen in asphalt roads. With this in mind, the BMC announced on Monday that roads are now being concreted with cement to prevent future problems.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of the BMC has accused the administration of misusing public funds to fix potholes. Last week, Vinod Mishra, a senior BJP corporator and the party's leader in the BMC, claimed that more than Rs 350 crore had been spent on pothole repair.

Following this, the BMC announced that the roads department had repaired 31,398 potholes between 9th April 2021, and 8th September 2021.

In addition, the BMC announced that it had selected contractors for road repairs through a tender process.

The BMC has issued tenders for road maintenance, and each municipal ward has been allocated a fund of Rs 2 crore for emergency expenses and pothole repairs.

Out of the total potholes filled, 22,897 were repaired by BMC employees, with the remaining 8,501 being filled by BMC contractors.
