South Korea signs MoU with Maharashtra Government, gives nod to $10 billion infra projects

The Maharashtra Government and South Korea have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation for smart cities, airports, metros, roads and other similar infrastructure projects in the state. This MoU was signed on the first day of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ South Korean visit in a meeting with the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Kim Dong-yeon.

South Korea reportedly also agreed to extend $10 billion for infrastructure projects in Maharashtra. The country will be extending $9 billion in credit and $1 billion for three projects, namely, the Nagpur-Mumbai Supercommunication Expressway, Bandra Government Colony Redevelopment and the Kalyan-Dombivali Smart Cities Project.

The Deputy Prime Minister and her team also exhibited interest in Maharashtra’s Samruddhi corridior project, which aims to link Mumbai and Nagpur via a 700 km super express highway.

As a gesture to formally mark the initiation of this partnership, the President of South Korea will also be visiting Maharashtra in early 2018.
