Assam to Enhance Connectivity with Rs 2 Bn Gauripur Bypass Project

Assam is set to strengthen its infrastructure with the four-lane Gauripur Bypass project on NH-31, a vital initiative aimed at improving connectivity and attracting investment. The Rs 2 billion project will enhance transport links between key areas such as Dumardoha, Khudimari, Fulkumari, and Baladmara, ensuring smoother passage for both local and commercial traffic. By easing congestion and reinforcing road infrastructure, the project will further position Assam as a key investment hub. The successful bidder must acknowledge the Letter of Award (LOA) and provide a performance security of Rs 620 million within 30 days.

4,800 km of Roads Upgraded in Maoist-Affected States
Since 2016, over 4,800 km of roads in Maoist-affected states have been widened to 5.5 m carriageways under the road connectivity project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas (RCPLWEA). Minister of Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed Parliament that RCPLWEA, a vertical of PMGSY, prioritises upgrading strategically significant roads identified by the Ministry of Home Affairs for security and development. Bihar saw the highest upgrades with 1,491 km, followed by Chhattisgarh (1,107 km). Other beneficiary states include Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. The initiative aims to enhance rural connectivity, boost economic activity, and improve accessibility to essential services.

Bihar Advances Connectivity with Rs 172.66 Bn Road Projects
The Bihar government has approved a budget of Rs 172.66 billion to enhance rural road infrastructure, constructing and maintaining 11,251 roads across 19,876 km over seven years. Madhubani will receive 706 roads spanning 1,237 km, while Aurangabad will have the longest network at 1,252 km. Key allocations include Gaya (1,241 km), Muzaffarpur (993 km), Vaishali (360 km), and Rohtas (851 km). This large-scale initiative aims to strengthen connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and improve accessibility across Bihar, ensuring better infrastructure for rural communities and fostering overall development in the state.

The company will construct the highway without any grant from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Competing bidders for the Guwahati Ring Road project included a joint venture of Adani Group and Ashoka Buildcon, which sought a Rs 1.35 billion grant, and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, requesting Rs 3.7 billion. This is among the first BOT Toll model projects awarded in over a decade, marking a shift from the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
