As a part of the National Ropeway Programme, representatives of national highways logistic management (NHLML) will conduct a feasibility study for 40 ropeway proposals in Maharashtra, mainly in Pune, Mumbai, Raigad, Nashik, Aurangabad, Satara and Ratnagiri in the next two months. NHLML is responsible for implementation of ropeways projects in the country. Only Raigad ropeway is operational in the state at present. The proposals include connecting the Harishchandra fort in Ahmednagar, Sunset Point Jawhar in Palghar and Goa fort at Dapoli in Ratnagiri. These proposals will be independently evaluated by NHLML since the entire funding will come from the Centre as a part of Parvatmala Yojana. The Ministry had proposed ropeway as a mode of transport to reduce traffic at tourist destinations. A total of 250 proposals are being evaluated in the country. The MoU is expected to ensure effective implementation, development, construction, operations and maintenance of the identified projects. So far Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and Andhra Pradesh have inked an MoU with NHLML for construction of ropeways under the ambitious Parvatmala Yojana.
