Mumbai Mayor asks BMC to repair all potholes within 10 days

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to repair all the potholes in the city within ten days.

Pednekar slammed the municipal administration over the delay in repairing potholes and directed the concerned officials to finish all repair works within ten days.

Pednekar visited Jarimari in Kurla and Subhash Nagar in Chembur to inspect the condition of the roads on Monday.

The Mumbai civic body has been facing widespread criticism from citizens and opposition corporators on poor roads and potholes.

The mayor said that all potholes should be repaired at the earliest. This is very serious as even after Ganeshotsav is over the potholes are still to be repaired. The engineers designated to look after road repairs and pothole filling should not be given any other works, said Pednkear.

There are only 942 potholes recorded across the city as of September 27, according to the BMC’s pothole tracking system. Of 942, the municipal administration claimed to repair 439 potholes. However, activists and citizens have criticised the municipal corporation for under-reporting the pothole numbers.

The deputy municipal commissioner has been instructed to submit a report on whether road engineers are diverted to do some other work that is impacting the pothole filling works, Pednkar said.

Mumbai municipal corporation says only 500 potholes are remaining to be repaired in the city. Mayor has started a gimmick of visits to repair the potholes now, said Shirsat.
