The National Highways Authority of India has rectified 33 of 40 deficient locations along an 11km stretch of the Delhi–Gurugram NH-48 corridor, following a joint inspection by the authority, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority. The audit identified damaged footpaths, crash barriers, inadequate lane markings and poor sanitation at multiple points between Rajiv Chowk and Signature Towers. Repairs and maintenance works have been carried out over May and June as part of the exercise. The report noted broken crash barriers and roadside littering between the main carriageway and service lanes at Rajiv Chowk, with nine spots showing damaged footpaths beneath the flyover and towards Sohna Chowk. 12 locations required attention to green verges and plantings, while 15 sites were found to suffer from dirt accumulation and open littering, including non-motorised transport lanes and areas beneath the Rajiv Chowk flyover. 19 locations were recorded as having damaged or inadequate road safety infrastructure and improper traffic channelisation at the Jharsa intersection was identified as causing motorist confusion. NHAI officials said works completed between May and June included footpath restoration at seven locations and road safety improvements such as replacement of damaged crash barriers at 15 locations. Green verges at nine locations have been placed under daily monitoring and plantation, protection and painting works are underway, while a contractor reported that seasonal plantation has been completed on at least half of the roadside patches and that further planting near the underpass will be promoted. The contractor requested anonymity. The inspections formed part of a Clean City Action Plan 2026 beautification drive aimed at increasing green cover, removing encroachments, improving road safety and reducing emissions, and phased improvements will be rolled out at pending sites. The exit point from Signature Towers, Sector 31 service roads to Signature Towers and Jharsa are scheduled for pedestrian and commuter safety revamps, and Municipal Corporation sanitary teams have been directed to intensify monitoring against roadside littering. The programme began in 2021 when GMDA identified 106 junctions for pedestrian upgrades.
