Nitin Gadkari announces Rs.13.38 bn Chennai- Bengaluru-Vellore highway

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a Rs.13.38 billion project for a 28-km access controlled highway in Tamil Nadu. The highway will feature a four-lane main carriageway with paved shoulders and two-lane service roads on both sides, ensuring smooth traffic flow for local commuters and long-distance travellers alike.

A 10-km bypass around Walajapet and Ranipet will help decongest these towns, while the project’s safety enhancements include four major bridges and two railway over-bridges.

The corridor will boost connectivity between Chennai and key cities like Bengaluru, Tirupati, and Vellore. Vellore, home to the renowned Christian Medical College (CMC), will benefit from improved access for patients, visitors, and professionals.

Enhanced connectivity is expected to stimulate trade, tourism, and local industries, making the highway a critical infrastructure boost for Tamil Nadu.
