PMRDA awards metro line 3 contract to Tata, Siemens Group

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has awarded the Pune metro line 3 contract to a joint venture (JV) of Tata Group and a consortium of the Siemens Group.

The elevated metro line project of 23.3 km will connect the Hinjewadi Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park with Shivajinagar through Balewadi.

Siemens Group said it is the first metro project in India under the new metro rail policy, with 23 stations built under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

This joint venture metro project is between Tata Group's TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH.

The part of work for the Siemens Group includes project management, turnkey electrification, signalling, communications and depot work or equipment.

The contract includes electrical and mechanical system works, which will be completed in 39 months.

Managing Director and Chief Executive of Siemens, Sunil Mathur, said that the order size of Siemens is nearly Rs 900 crore.

Siemens Financial Services invests in infrastructure projects across the globe. The company helps the cities to fulfil the needs of intelligent infrastructure solutions and enable smarter and more sustainable transportation systems through PPPs.

TUTPL will develop and implement PPP urban transport projects. The company aims to focus on roads, urban transportation, smart cities and electric vehicles (EVs).
