Challaghatta metro station to be operational by Aug 2022

Bengaluru’s Challaghatta metro station, which is roughly 2 km from the Kengeri Metro station, will be operational by August this year.

The Challaghatta station was scheduled to open in March 2022 when the extended Purple Line between Mysuru Road and Kengeri was launched.

Senior Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials told the media that on this elevated station, 90% of the structural work is finished.

A senior official told the media that along this route, a total of 70 spans have been built, and roof structure construction is underway. It will be finished by the end of March. Work on the finishing touches, such as placing a stone on the floor, painting, and other outside work, will begin in the first week of February and be completed by July of this year.

The official said that the rails have been welded together, and plinths are being installed. A total of 1,750 m of rail must be installed, followed by the installation of fixtures surrounding the rails. The power supply third rail will be completed later.

The Baiyappanahalli-Mysuru Road line was extended by 7.5 km up to Kengeri on August 29 of last year. When asked about the reasons for the delay, an official informed that the most difficult obstacle was the construction of a 56 m overpass above NICE Road, which was a difficult task.

The second wave of the Covid- 19 pandemic, which resulted in a massive labour shortage, further slowed things down. The third wave is also having an impact since many employees are on leave or resting owing to health concerns.

An official said that an underpass has been suggested to provide communication between the Challaghatta station and the layout. BMRCL and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will work together on it. However, it does not appear to be in place at the time of the line's launch.
