BMRCL plans skywalk for metro and BMTC terminal connection

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has proposed a skywalk for connecting the Banashankari Metro Station with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) terminal.

The skywalk will provide a safe space for street vendors and pedestrians.

Tejasvi Surya, Bangalore South MP and R Ashoka, the Revenue Minister, visited the area last year and suggested the officials propose a skywalk connecting the metro and BMTC terminal.

According to the proposed skywalk, the existing junction should be redesigned, streamlining the traffic and creating a traffic island for planting trees. The metro rail junction will have a circular skywalk with loops connecting the metro and the terminal.

As per a statement, the skywalk will be a vibrant public space with greenery and resting pods. It will enhance the pedestrian experience and connect the junction on the ground and air.

Currently, the junction has only some leftover spaces from many projects with odd traffic islands and pedestrian crossings. The junction has become a nightmare for years for the pedestrians who have to pass through heavy bus and vehicular movements.

Venkataramanan Associates, an architect firm, has prepared the design of the skywalk.

BMRCL has invited the local citizens to visit their website to view the design of the skywalk and provide suggestions and feedback.
