Chennai Metro to Start 6 am Services on Porur Line

Chennai Metro Rail will extend operating hours on the 15 km Phase 2 corridor between Poonamallee Bypass and Vadapalani from Friday. Trains on the corridor will operate from 6 am to 9 pm in both directions, bringing forward the start of services by an hour. The stretch currently has 11 stations in operation.

The earlier operating schedule on the corridor was from 7 am to 9 pm. Chennai Metro Rail said the revised timetable was introduced to make early-morning travel more convenient for commuters travelling towards Vadapalani and Poonamallee. The decision followed feedback received from commuters after services began on the corridor.

On weekdays, trains will operate at 10-minute intervals during the morning and evening peak periods. The peak windows will be from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 8 pm, covering the periods when passenger demand is expected to be higher. During the remaining operating hours on weekdays, trains will run every 15 minutes.

On Sundays and public holidays, services will operate at 15-minute intervals throughout the day. Trains will run from 6 am to 9 pm on those days, maintaining the same start and end times as the revised weekday schedule. The last train will depart from both terminal stations at 9 pm, ensuring that services on the corridor conclude simultaneously at Poonamallee Bypass and Vadapalani.

The timetable applies to the operational section of the corridor and provides an earlier travel option for passengers using the 11-station stretch. Commuters travelling during the first hour of service will therefore be able to begin their journeys from either terminal at 6 am. The change is intended to improve access to the metro for passengers whose daily travel begins early.
