DMRC to Operate Chennai Metro Phase-II for 15 Years

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) have formalised an agreement for providing Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services for three key corridors under Chennai Metro’s Phase-II project. The contract also covers maintenance depots located at Madhavaram, Poonamallee, and Semmancheri.

Under the agreement, DMRC will offer O&M services for approximately 15 years. This contract, awarded on 2 April 2025 through an international competitive bidding process, covers around 118 kilometres of metro lines and 112 stations spanning Corridors 3, 4, and 5.

DMRC will be responsible for managing key O&M functions, including train operations, station supervision, depot maintenance, and activities at the Operational Control Centre. All services will conform to international standards to ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability.

This marks DMRC’s second major win in the O&M space through international bidding, following the Mumbai Metro Line 3 contract secured in 2023.

The first stretch of Phase-II is expected to become operational by December 2025, with full implementation of the project scheduled in stages through to December 2028.
